Drink DuJour: Mezcalita

Mix up a delicious Mexican cocktail

The new Azul Bar in the lobby of the Hilton Los Cabos boasts the largest tequila collection in Cabo. With over 150 bottles from both traditional distilleries and modern, artisanal producers, the bar offers an extensive cocktail menu and weekly mezcal and tequila tastings. (The best way to experience a new mezcal? Pour a few drops into your palm, rub your hands together, and inhale its campfire smell.)

A popular cocktail is their Mezcalita, a crisp, tangy concoction that blends citrus, sugar and spice for a new twist on the classic margarita. “It’s refreshing and a hundred percent natural,” says mixologist Daniel Aceves. “The smoke flavor of the mezcal is an ideal combination with the fresh fruit and raw sugar. For me, it’s the perfect Mexican drink.”

MEZCALITA

1 ½ oz. Mezcal
2 pc. Orange, with peel
1 Lime, peel removed
2 tsp. Raw sugar
Tajin seasoning

Muddle the orange, lime, and sugar in a cocktail shaker. Add mezcal and ice and shake vigorously. Pour contents into a glass rimmed with Tajin seasoning and serve.
