Following a recent 15-month, $25 million renovation The London West Hollywood[1] can now officially claim the largest hotel suite in all of LA: a Vivienne Westwood-inspired Penthouse that spans two floors and 11,000 square-feet. Beyond that, the renovation added 25 new suites, a 112-seat screening room and a massive 2,000-square-foot fitness center.
Inspired by the serenity of a classic English garden[2], the hotel’s rooftop deck offers a hidden oasis with a heated swimming pool, outdoor fire pit, cabanas and plush lounge chairs—the perfect place to swim and dine al fresco.
The hotel boasts 225 suites with views of the Hollywood Hills, Waterworks bathrooms and sleek marble furnishings—plus gracious staff that leave rooms promptly turned down and immaculately clean. The valet attendants always had our car waiting (even with only a minute’s notice) and they gushed extensively over our red Lexus RC F sportscar that we had the pleasure of driving for the week.
All in all, the property is great for both business or leisure travelers and guests both young and old. It’s stylish, functional, modern and well located. What more can you ask for in Los Angeles?
Below, the London’s General Manager Jeff Kulek tells us about the most sought-after room[3] on the property.
The most requested room:
Ever since the announcement of the new Penthouse inspired by Vivienne Westwood this spring, it has been the most requested room in the hotel.
What makes it so special:
The new bi-level suite offers guests access through a private, contemporary-styled corridor. The 5,000-square-foot outdoor rooftop terrace is ideal for entertaining and features breathtaking panoramic city views. The striking design is inspired by Westwood’s past collections and features her own bold tapestries, fashions and fabrics. Beyond exquisite design, the penthouse guests are also treated to exclusive designer experiences, including one hour of private shopping at the Vivienne Westwood store in West Hollywood and a special discount on all purchases, his and her gift bags from Vivienne Westwood upon check-in and Vivienne Westwood-branded amenities within the suite.
The rate:
$25,000 per night.
Your personal favorite:
The one bedroom Gate Suites on the ninth floor.
Because…
Each of the five new Gate Suites, which debuted in fall 2014 as part of the first phase of the hotel’s $25 million renovation, boasts three balconies, a kitchenette and a large bathroom.
The Gate Suites were all designed by the original designer of The London, David Collins Studio, and pay homage to London’s Hyde Park. Each of these one- and two-bedroom Gate Suites span between 1,425 and 1,975 square feet, boast a highly residential ambiance, replete with hardwood flooring, kitchens or kitchenettes, 53” flat screen televisions and three terraces with sweeping views.
Celebrity guests:
The hotel doesn’t disclose the names of any of its celebrity guests, but several top celebrities have requested the penthouse.
Fun fact:
The London West Hollywood was built originally as the Hotel Bel Age. The Hotel Bel Age was the location for many historical events on the television show 90210, including where Dylan resided before he moved into his house.
