As you settle into your lounge chair and gaze out at Marigot Bay in St. Barths’ Le Guanahani[1], you’ll probably feel like you’ve been transported into a Caribbean postcard. There will be a thatched-roof tiki hut overhead, palm trees on either side of you and a handful of kite surfers skimming the water in the distance, their neon green kites in perfect contrast to the bright blue sky.
The rest of your visit will feel equally postcard-perfect at Guanahani, even when you’re not lazing on the beach. White-washed suites with yellow and navy blue accents feel at once beachy and sophisticated, and the décor is downright charming: the mini-bar is located inside a vintage piece of steamer luggage.
Guanahani is spread out over 18 sprawling acres, making it the largest resort on the island, but with just 67 rooms, the hotel is hardly “large” in the way that most Caribbean island resorts are. You’ll never wait more than five minutes to get a piña colada, for instance, and nearly every staff member will go out of their way to greet you by name.
We spoke to Le Guanahani’s General Manager Martein Van Wagenberg about what else makes the property such a St. Barth standout[2], and why one room in particular is consistently the hotel’s most sought after.
The most requested room:
#22. It’s an ocean view one-bedroom pool suite.
What makes it so special:
This room is special because it’s located in the middle of the property, has a beautiful ocean view, a private pool and a covered terrace with extended sundeck.
Rate:
1,400 Euros per night including breakfast and round trip airport transfers
Your personal favorite:
The Marigot Bay Suite
Because…
It has a breathtaking 180-degree view of the ocean. It’s nicely located in the middle of the property but feels very private since it is at the tip of the hotel. The suite offers a private pool and two bedrooms, which have just been fully renovated.
Fun Fact:
Le Guanahani has been a landmark of the destination for years.
