Though you might have to be a modern design enthusiast to pinpoint architect Florence Knoll Bassett as a frontliner in bringing modernism to America in the mid-twentieth century, just about anyone can appreciate the clean, minimalist aesthetic in commercial and interior design. And as of last week, you don’t have to be a buyer or consultant to shop the iconic Knoll look[1] for your own home.
For the first time since its founding in 1938, Knoll—the industry’s leading creators of modern furnishings—has opened a retail location for consumers called the Knoll Home Design Shop. Situated in the heart of New York City, the brick-and-mortar store will offer seasonal curations of residential furniture, textiles and accessories. And for those not in New York, the company has also launched a new e-commerce destination at knoll.com[2], so anyone in the market for its signature designs and pieces and purchase pieces directly from the brand. In addition, Knoll’s 75th anniversary project also includes newly redesigned offices and a showroom for commercial clients all in the same location—a celebration on many levels, quite literally.
