As you approach the grand courtyard of The Rosewood London[1], it feels as if you’re entering a grand manor rather than a hotel in central London[2]. Conveniently located on High Holborn, and within walking distance of Covent Garden and the West End theatre district, the stunning Grade-II listed Edwardian building was completed in 1914 and for many years served as the headquarters for an insurance firm.
Guests are welcomed by an Instagram-worthy rose bronze gallery that was designed by Tony Chi and Associates. Its 262 guestrooms and 44 stylishly-appointed suites are quite spacious for local standards and come complete with Rivolta Carmignani Italian linens and toiletries by British heritage brand Czech & Speake.
Whether you opt for a pre-theatre meal at the on-site British brasserie, Holborn Dining Room, or prefer a pampering session at the tranquil Sense Spa, you won’t be disappointed. Be sure not to miss a visit to Scarfes Bar, named for renowned artist and caricaturist Gerald Scarfe—whose amusing illustrations adorn the walls of the Martin Brudnizki-designed space—and which just launched an all new cocktail menu inspired by famous British pop culture icons like David Bowie and J.K. Rowling.
Here, General Manager Michael Bonsor gives us the scoop on the most requested room at the hotel.
What is the most requested room?
Our magnificent Garden Suite. It’s located on the top floor of the hotel and offers views out over the beautiful courtyard as well as many historical landmarks.
What makes it so special?
The luxury of private greenery in central London is complemented by a spacious bedroom, a light-filled sitting room, an intimate den, and an Italian marble bathroom, all spread out across 1,216 square feet, in addition to the 646 square foot garden terrace. This outdoor area features a dining table for six, and provides the perfect setting for an intimate dinner by candlelight, or enjoying the daytime sunshine throughout the summer months.
What is the rate?
Rates start at £5,500 (approximately $7,357) per night.
What room is your personal favorite?
I am particularly fond of our Manor House Suite which has a stunning bedroom, dining room, marble bathroom and library. It’s accessible by separate entrance and private elevator and offers personalized butler service for guests during their stay.
Any celebrity guests?
There have been several well-known guests who have stayed with us. They have become regular residents who treat Rosewood London as their home away from home, and we therefore cannot disclose any information.
Any fun facts about the hotel or rooms?
Even though we opened in 2013 as a hotel, we maintained many of the original features of the building, including the grand Pavonazzo marble staircase, which consists of different rare types of marble, five of which are now extinct.
