Chicago’s trendy noodle den Ramen-san is making a name for themselves in the world of spirits by putting a Japanese-inspired spin on traditional cocktails. Their popular Hot Todzilla reworks the classic hot toddy by blending in a few Asian flavors.
“We wanted to put a Ramen-san twist on a traditional hot toddy by adding Japanese whiskey and a little La-Yu chili oil,” said Beverage Director Diane Corcoran.
The La-Yu chili oil adds a subtle kick to the warm cocktail, but doesn’t overpower the flavors. The result is a smooth mélange of comfort and kick.
Here’s how to make it.
HOT TODZILLA
1 oz. Yamazaki whiskey
½ oz. Rittenhouse rye
¼ oz. Demerara
½ oz. Honey syrup
½ oz. Lemon
6 oz. Hot water
4 Drops La-Yu chili oil
1 Slice of fresh ginger
Add all ingredients to a glass and lightly stir to incorporate. Garnish with a slice of fresh ginger and serve in a mug.
