Room Request! Four Seasons Resort at Peninsula Papagayo

Peninsula Papagayo’s premier hotel for the past decade has been the Four Seasons Resort[1]. The picturesque 45-acre property sits on two pristine beaches, Playa Blanca and Playa Virador, and you can be oceanside just 40 minutes after landing at Costa Rica’s new Liberia airport (JetBlue[2] offers a nonstop flight from New York City).

The staff caters to your every whim and can often predict when you’ll want beach daybeds prepped or a fruity cocktail. Think: thatched huts offering a variety of sunscreens and Evian water sprays, hourly treats like whole coconuts, smoothies and ices served poolside and beachside, complimentary back massages and even someone who painstaking cleans your sunglasses—they’ve really thought of everything.

The resort recently underwent a beautiful transformation, spearheaded by Dallas-based Paul Deusing Partners, which meant upgrades to all areas of the expansive property, including each of the 154 guest rooms, the lobby, a spa expansion and reimagined restaurant and lounge concepts. The yearlong overhaul included three new dining options, Cena Sociale Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar, Sol y Sombra Latin Kitchen and Seafood Grill and Tico’s Lounge, with menus conceptualized by Executive Chef Mario Alcocer.

Below, Four Seasons Resort at Peninsula Papagayo’s General Manager Pascal Forotti tells us about the most sought-after room on the property.

The most requested room:
We have two that we find are the most requested at the resort: the Canopy Suites and the three-bedroom villas (there are 16 in total).

What makes them so special:
The Canopy Suites are great for couples because it’s a one-bedroom suite on stilts perched on a hill with picturesque views of the Costa Rican coast. The three-bedroom villa is ideal for multi-generational families because it features both private and public spaces for sharing moments together as well as potential for quiet. All of our three-bedroom villas also feature a private plunge pool.

The rate:
It differs from season to season, however the Canopy Suites range from $1,800 to $2,650 and the three-bedroom villas can range from $2,850 to $6,650 nightly.

Your personal favorite:
Personally, I love the Casa de la Luna three-bedroom villa.

Because…
Amongst other things, it happens to be where I proposed to my wife in 2011 during what happened to be a particularly beautiful sunset. That three-bedroom villa has the best sunsets that can be seen from the gazebo at the tip of the Peninsula.

Celebrity guests:
Most recently, we hosted Jay-Z and Beyoncé in one of our villas.

Fun fact:
The resort was built entirely on solid rock and was designed by a Costa Rican architect.
