Just outside of DuPont Circle[1], Massachusetts Avenue NW is dotted with grand buildings that house governments from around the world. Nestled among them is an equally eye-catching structure with a slightly less official bent. The Embassy Row[2]—so named for its proximity to those nearby ambassadorial residences—offers guests lodging in one of the District’s most historic neighborhoods, but there’s nothing old-fashioned about the hotel. Guests are treated to modern and well-appointed rooms, a rooftop bar[3] (which serves as an al fresco yoga studio by day), the on-site Station Kitchen & Cocktails eatery and a lobby complete with a 24-hour chef’s pantry as well as a buzzy daytime scene—thanks in no small part to the locally roasted Compass Coffee on offer.

Here, General Manager Shawn Jervis discusses the hotel’s most-requested room, its philanthropic bent and the building’s impressive artist offers. 

The most requested room:

Our most requested rooms are the Ambassador Rooms with city views. 

What makes it so special:

It’s on a premier level, which means it’s on a higher level and the rooms include more perks. Mainly people request these particular rooms because they have a spectacular view of the Indonesian Embassy and Portuguese Embassy directly in front of the hotel, and a gorgeous skyline view of D.C.

Rates range from $209 to $549 per night.

Your personal favorite:

My favorite room is the SOME Suite. SOME stands for So Others Might Eat, a local charity here in the city.

Because…

We find any opportunity to support our community. Whenever guests stay in the SOME Suite, they’ll helping contribute money back to this local non-profit and helping get the homeless in D.C. back on their feet.

Celebrity guests:

We’re funky and irreverent, so we attract a different caliber of celebrities—everyone from 1990s bands to Instagram personalities.

Fun fact:

We have many passion points at The Embassy Row Hotel: music, art, design, taste and style. A lot of our guests are surprised by all of the hidden graffiti at the hotel. Currently, there are four murals of street art at the hotel, each with a different meaning. I love showing guests the artwork because they’re always excited and surprised when they see it!
