Eden Roc at Cap Cana feels like a posh village more than a traditional resort. A 15-minute drive from the Punta Cana airport, the hotel’s design celebrates the aesthetics of the 1960s French and Italian Rivieras while being true to its Caribbean setting. Part of the Dominican Republic’s 30,000-acre Cap Cana enclave, Eden Roc is a Relais & Châteaux property with lush gardens, jewel-toned villas and one of the prettiest sugar-white sand strips on the island. The property’s 34 spacious freestanding suites are an oasis of tranquility with private swimming pools and lounge areas.
Guests are given complimentary use of a private, electric golf cart while on property to zip to and from the hotel’s private Beach Club. During our stay, the resort never felt too crowded and we were well attended to. One didn’t have to rush to claim beach chairs at 6 A.M., there were plenty prime ones left when we arrived after a leisurely breakfast around 11A.M. There is a Jack Nicklaus golf course (one of three in the vicinity) on the premises but the beach an ocean is so picturesque, you may not want to leave.
The two dining options are Mediterraneo Restaurant (where the breakfast buffet is served) for a Mediterranean-style dinner or La Palapa off of the beach for lunch and dinner, serving local seafood, pastas and sushi, alongside spectacular ocean views.
This spring, the property will unveil the first stage of enhancements to its Caléton Beach Club, which will include the new Solaya Spa with enhanced wellness experiences; a new restaurant featuring a cigar lounge/wine cellar; and a new infinity pool overlooking the resort’s private beach. Set for completion in 2016, 52 beachfront suites will also be added and were well underway when we visited in March.
Below, the Eden Rock at Cap Cana’s Managing Director Stefano Baratelli tells us about the most sought-after room on the property.
The most requested room:
Our three Deluxe Pool Family Suites are the most requested rooms.
What makes it so special:
They are the perfect gathering spot for families traveling with children. They overlook our lush gardens or magical lagoon and feature two bathrooms, a spacious living room and a master bedroom that links to a secondary bedroom with bunk beds. There is a wonderland of exploration right outside the door for kids of all ages—they may follow the fun from the suite’s private pool to sea.
The average rate per night for a Deluxe Pool Family Suite is $1,422 USD.
Your personal favorite:
My personal favorite is the luxurious bi-level Golden Shell Suite.
The suite features a living space with a dining room, a full kitchen, four and a half bathrooms, four bedrooms, outdoor relaxation areas, a free-form infinity pool and a private gym. A butler is on call 24 hours a day and a personal chef will prepare all meals. This magnificent space provides lots of room to enjoy the company of loved ones.
Local and international musicians in the area visit our Riva Bar for a drink and play with our house piano player. Recently, we have had Luis Miguel and Diego el Cigala playing with our piano.
