The DuJour 5×5: Celebrity Edition

by Natasha Wolff | March 31, 2014 12:50 pm

Each week for The DuJour 5×5, we ask five editors five questions on a different topic. This week’s installment centers on all things celebrity: our most memorable star sighting, the celebrity profile we ate up with a spoon and our contenders for the name of Mila and Ashton’s first child.

1. Now that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated, who should they each date next? Gwyneth Paltrow will go for a younger, sensitive type, like Tom Welling. Miranda Kerr for Chris Martin, if he doesn’t stay single.
2. My favorite celebrity/personality to follow on Twitter is (I’m not on Twitter!), and on Instagram it’s @thefatjewish[1] right now—only just started following him.
3. Name Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s baby: Nikonna
4. The best celebrity sighting I’ve ever had was Whoopi Goldberg on Fifth Ave. I was a few days new to New York so I assumed it was my new normal. I’ve never seen another celeb just walking around since.
5. The most fascinating celebrity profile/memoir I’ve ever read: Drew Magary’s profile on a just-turned-18 Justin Bieber[2]  in GQ was a terrific read.

1. Now that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated, who should they each date next? Gwyneth will end up dating a foreign financier or shipping magnate—Chris will undoubtedly go for a Victoria’s Secret model.
2. My favorite celebrity/personality to follow on Twitter is @ChrissyTeigen[3], and on Instagram it’s @thefatjewish[1].
3. Name Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s baby: Orange Magnolia
4. The best celebrity sighting I’ve ever had was Magic Johnson at Detroit Metro Airport. I was nine, and he signed my plane ticket. My brother and I took a photo with him and my parents ended up sending it out as a Christmas card that said “Hope You Have a Magical Holiday Season.”
5. The most fascinating celebrity profile/memoir I’ve ever read: Devin Friedman’s piece in the January 2009 issue of GQ about Lil Wayne[4]. There are no words to describe it really—just read it, and you’ll see what I mean.

1. Now that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated, who should they each date next? My money’s on Gwyneth dating someone with a little more flavor and multi-talented like a Jamie Foxx type. I’m guessing Chris will find a Gwyneth 2.0 like Mia Wasikowska
2. My favorite celebrity/personality to follow on Twitter is @mindykaling[5], and on Instagram it’s @robertocavalli [6]for his unfiltered celebrity commentary.
3. Name Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s baby: Jacko or Kelsie—a combo of their character names on That 70s Show (Jackie and Kelso)
4. The best celebrity sighting I’ve ever had was my favorite, Penelope Cruz at some club for some fragrance launch I think. I played it cool when we were introduced but then found out later that my boyfriend had told her how “obsessed” I was before bringing me over, so she was very nice but understandably cautious.
5. The most fascinating celebrity profile/memoir I’ve ever read: Maybe not fascinating since it was so believable, but I certainly enjoyed Stephen Rodrick’s feature on Lindsay Lohan[7] last year in the Times.

1. Now that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated, who should they each date next? Gwyneth: An international billionaire. A Sarkozy or Dodi al Fayed-type. Chris: Is Carolyn Murphy single?
2. My favorite celebrity/personality to follow on Twitter is @TheEllenShow[8]. She was made for the quick quip. And on Instagram it’s @LauraWBush[9]. Her commitment to women’s initiatives worldwide continues to be an inspiration.
3. Name Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s baby: Milo for a boy, Ashley for a girl.
4. The best celebrity sighting I’ve ever had was at dinner last week. The entire cast of Mad Men was two tables over at Gemma, laughing and carrying on. It reaffirmed my belief that celebrities really are demi-gods.
5. The most fascinating celebrity profile/memoir I’ve ever read: Kate Remembered[10] by A. Scott Berg. The story of her life captured my imagination as a young person first arriving in New York. Berg’s charismatic voice aptly evokes her character and independence. She was true blue.

1. Now that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have separated, who should they each date next? They should try Hinge, everyone’s telling me it’s the new Tinder.
2. My favorite celebrity/personality to follow on Twitter is @Joan_Rivers[11], and on Instagram it’s @Russelltovey[12] because his adorable French bulldog is in almost every shot.
3. Name Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher’s baby: Isn’t that bad luck?
4. The best celebrity sighting I’ve ever had was Madeleine Albright at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner.
5. The most fascinating celebrity profile/memoir I’ve ever read: Rex Reed on Tennessee Williams, a stand-out among a group of fantastic essays in Reed’s collection People Are Crazy Here[13].
