The DuJour 5×5: Spring Cleaning Edition

DuJour editors on hoarding tendencies, an addicting cleaning spray and the embarrassing things they can’t get rid of

Each week for The DuJour 5×5, we ask five editors five questions on a different topic. This week’s installment centers on all things spring cleaning: what our staffers are hoarding, surprises discovered while cleaning and the celebrities they predict have a penchant for clutter.

1. If I hoard anything, it’s definitely nail polishes.

2. The most random artifact I’ve uncovered while spring cleaning my desk: A magazine on Maine Coon cats given to me by art director Stephanie Jones a few years ago.

3. The celebrity I imagine has the most cluttered closet is Rihanna.

4. My spring cleaning regimen involves: a Pandora mix of Bobby Brown, Janet Jackson and 2pac, Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena All Purpose Spray, Le Labo’s Santal 26 candle and a bowl of frozen grapes.

5. The embarrassing piece of clothing I haven’t purged from my closet yet: A pair of Abercrombie and Fitch track pants I have had since 7th grade. At least I will be prepared when they become cool again in a retro kind of way.

1. If I hoard anything, it’s definitely beauty products and old magazines.

2. The most random artifact I’ve uncovered while spring cleaning my desk: Handwritten notes from Courtney Love, Rev. Al Sharpton and Buzz Aldrin. Pretty sure it doesn’t get more random than that.

3. The celebrity I imagine has the most cluttered closet is Lindsay Lohan. This was confirmed during the premiere of her new Oprah reality show last night. She is an unapologetic hoarder.

4. My spring cleaning regimen involves: A strong cup of coffee, dousing my apartment in Mrs. Meyers Lemon Verbena spray, donating anything I haven’t worn during the winter season and blasting my new favorite band Phantogram on these Wren speakers.

5. The embarrassing piece of clothing I haven’t purged from my closet yet: A piece of La Perla lingerie I’ll never be bold enough to wear.

1. If I hoard anything, it’s definitely shoes.

2. The most random artifact I’ve uncovered while spring cleaning my desk: Dental floss, deodorant, a nail file, more shoes… I could probably live out of my desk.

3. The celebrity I imagine has the most cluttered closet is Lindsay Lohan. I watched the first episode of her reality series last night and couldn’t believe how much stuff she had in storage!

4. My spring cleaning regimen involves: Procrastinating as long as possible, then getting everything done in one epic burst of energy, usually at a strange time of night (like 1 a.m. this past Friday).

5. The embarrassing piece of clothing I haven’t purged from my closet yet: A grey Mudd peacoat that still fits from 9th grade. It’s faded, missing buttons, and I never wear it but can’t seem to get rid of it anyway.

1. If I hoard anything, it’s definitely nail polishes. I have a bag of them that weighs about 10 pounds for no reason—I only wear one or two shades.

2. The most random artifact I’ve uncovered while spring cleaning my desk: Trader Joe’s almonds stowed from when we did this juice cleanse story last spring.

3. The celebrity I imagine has the most cluttered closet is Justin Bieber.

4. My spring cleaning regimen involves: Moving my coats and winter accessories wherever I can’t see them for the next nine months.

5. The embarrassing piece of clothing I haven’t purged from my closet yet: It’s probably this bathing suit that I got at my previous job years ago. I’ve never worn it, but I can’t part with it.

1. If I hoard anything, it’s definitely books.

2. The most random artifact I’ve uncovered while spring cleaning my desk: Plastic “witch fingers” from a Halloween party store given to me by colleague Adam Rathe. Or I think that is where he got them.

3. The celebrity I imagine has the most cluttered closet is Steve Buscemi. That is why I like him. One of the reasons.

4. My spring cleaning regimen involves:  I procrastinate until my husband threatens divorce. Then I turn on the classic rock on my Time Warner TV: If I listen to enough Led Zeppelin, Journey, Foreigner and Bob Seger, I can force myself forward. The song that is guaranteed to make me grab the Comet cleanser is Kansas’ “Carry on My Wayward Son.”

5. The embarrassing piece of clothing I haven’t purged from my closet yet: An orange bowling shirt I bought at Reminiscence vintage clothing shop in Manhattan. It has “Nancy” stitched on the front and “Bates Motel” on the back
