Famous for its historic mansions and extensive coastline, Newport, Rhode Island is the summer playground[1] for New Englanders and tourists alike, and no hotel better exemplifies its charm than The Chanler at Cliff Walk[2]. Situated on an oceanfront property overlooking Easton’s Beach, this boutique hotel offers 20 uniquely themed rooms, capturing the rich history of the area. With a first-class butler service—they’ll even draw you a romantic bath strewn with rose petals—and award-winning restaurants, this luxury hotel is in high demand and books up fast. We caught up with General Manager Christine Sullivan to find out which room gets snatched up first.
Most requested room:
“Martha’s Vineyard, the Ocean Villa.”
What makes it special:
“This is by far our most popular room. The bathroom is the crowning indoor feature: It boasts a wet room with Jacuzzi and open shower with multiple jets and an antique stained skylight above. A four-poster bed looks up to a beautiful crystal chandelier in the center of the room—and ahead to a fireplace and built in television. The private outdoor deck features a raised ‘crow’s nest’ seating area with a gorgeous view overlooking the ocean and Easton’s Beach. The lower courtyard surrounded by high walls features a private hot tub spa and sauna nestled underneath the deck. The private courtyard is large enough for entertaining.”
Your personal favorite:
“One of my favorites is Louis XVI, a signature room.”
Because…
“For me, that room is very much a ‘princess’ room. I love the chandeliers and the soft blues and the canopy bed.”
The rate:
The average rate is $800 per night.
Fun fact:
“The Chanler at Cliff Walk has a rich and storied history. It was a private home built in the late 1800s during Newport’s Gilded Age and had several incarnations through the years before—in 2000—it became a luxury hotel. Archived images and historical photos are displayed throughout the property and history is manifest in the hotel’s 20 rooms—each reflects a different sophisticated historic theme and appointed with authentic furnishings, art and décor.”
