Driving through the dramatic, palm tree-lined entrance to Bacara Resort & Spa[1], guests are likely to share the same reaction I had on a recent visit: I won’t be leaving the premises any time soon. And really, there’s no need to—even though the beachfront property is located just 18 minutes from Downtown Santa Barbara. With three restaurants, four tennis courts, two golf courses, three pools and a 42,000 square-foot spa, the hotel[2] feels like a world of its own.
Warm Spanish-style design elements and lush gardens around the property ensure that despite Bacara’s massive size (78 acres in total), it never feels overwhelming. The rooms are arguably what make the visit to Bacara so unique—there are stunning views, fireplaces and golf carts with drivers at the ready. We spoke to General Manager Kathleen Cochran for a glimpse into the California oasis.
