Hidden away along a pristine, private cove of white sand on Phuket’s quiet northwestern coast, Anantara Layan Phuket Resort[1] is yet another gleaming example of the island’s recent five-star renaissance. Open since 2014, far from the madding crowds of Patong, it’s one of the best new properties to come out of Phuket’s seemingly unstoppable luxury boom. And it also happens to offer one of the most stunning sunset views anywhere in Southeast Asia.
The sundown scene is best enjoyed during one of the regular torch-lit cocktail parties held for Layan guests on the beach. (More adventurous attendees also appreciate the gourmet roasted insects, served kebab-style.)
Serene and remote, the compound offers 30 rooms and 47 pool villas, several of which open out onto the Andaman Sea, with individual access to Layan Beach. But if it’s next-level pampering you’re after, a more exclusive experience can be had in one of several new Private Pool Residences, modern sanctuaries of indulgence with sweeping coastal vistas. Truly fine dining can be found at the resort’s two main restaurants, Sala Layan, which offers Mediterranean fare in an exquisitely appointed space above the hotel’s open-air lobby, and Dee Pee, where contemporary Thai cuisine is served alongside unobstructed views of paradise from an expansive, cantilevered deck high up on a ridge.
Whether it’s day-bed drinks by the beachfront pool bar, quality time with hot stones at the Anantara Spa, or surprisingly engaging daily classes at the Spice Spoons cooking school, most guests find there’s very little reason to ever leave the property.
Frederic Varnier, the Managing Director of Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, expanded on the five-star hideaway’s unique appeal.
