Favorite Restaurant: Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria on Great Jones Street. I love eating there because they cure their own meats. I love the crispy artichokes. All the pastas are really delicious especially the buccatini cacio e pepe.
Favorite Museum: I spend a lot of time at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, for which all New Yorkers should get down on their knees and thank God. I've recently been looking at Rubens' work.
Currently Listening To: I've been listening to The Roots a lot lately. I have a ’60s playlist that I spent a long time putting together. It's three hours long, from Spanky and Our Gang to Brenton Wood to The Buckinghams to The Rascals.
Favorite Shopping Destination: Unless we're talking about food or books, I'm not your guy. So, food: the Union Square Green Market (for the freshest foods in New York) and Di Palo on Grand Street (for the best mozzarella in New York. Hands down). For books: Westsider Books on Broadway—that's the bookstore at the beginning of the John Turturro movie, Fading Gigolo.
Currently Reading: In Defense of Nothing: Selected Poems by PeterGizzi. He's my best friend, but he also happens to be America's greatest poet.
Favorite Drink: Allagash White beer—it's actually brewed with spices so it's really good—and Chateau de Pibarnon Bandol Rouge red wine.
Favorite Cultural Institution: I hear The New York Film Festival is pretty good. There's a great NYFF line-up this year that includes David Fincher's Gone Girl, Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, Pedro Costa's Horse Money, the Safdie brothers' Heaven Knows What and Jean-Luc Godard's 3-D Goodbye to Language, which seems even more astonishing now than it did in Cannes, where it left me speechless.
