Gloria Estefan looks back on a few of her major style moments through the years…
1980
This is my favorite of all my looks. Number one, I was comfortable. I was in jeans on stage; I'm a girl who likes to dress down and really low key. The chaps were sexy, and they highlighted your booty. This was just a stretchy off-the-shoulder top, and of all the looks I've ever done, this was the most me. I thought it was really hot. The stylist—Vivienne was her name—came up with the idea of doing the chaps while we were doing the "Anything For You" video, and I just loved that. And I know my male fans loved it, too. They would throw their underwear at me!
1988
This was when we debuted the Gloria album. It's very metallic and that’s what we were going for. And this was at that iconic club in New York that was wild, Studio 54. We re-opened Studio 54 for that party. This is my natural hair, by the way. My hair's curly, really curly, and we added little pieces of color.
1991
This a team of Alberto Tolot, who shot the picture, and his wife Serena, who's one of my favorite makeup artists, but what I love about this picture is the bandana—it’s also very low key and the look is back. Everything comes back around. I think I've been around three times on bell-bottoms—it's kind of scary, the third time around. But I'm wearing this giant poufy skirt and fishnets, and this is Italian all the way and I thought it was very cool.
2004
I love leather. And recently I just did a show in San Antonio my birthday weekend also wearing leather, but it was a skirt, which was the first time I’ve ever shown legs on stage because usually I'm in pants or a longer skirt or tights. I've got a cuff from Chrome Hearts that I love, and Emilio actually almost invested in Chrome Hearts. I have bracelets that Emilio bought me, those big biker chains. He talked the designer into doing rose gold, and he was like, "Oh no, I'm a biker, I don't like gold." But I have the one that says "001" that he made for me, and his gold collection took off after that.
