"That is one of my ultimate all-time favorite dresses by Steve [Sprouse]. It was one of a kind. It was a silk matte jersey of double thickness and had like a halter top with a little point that joined with the skirt. It was the hottest, sexiest little dress—I loved it. It was a mini, and I used to wear it with the highest boots I could find. When I started being dressed by Steve, things shot up and that's when it really became fashion—that little black dress was a real statement, a real piece of design. I just adored this dress."

"We took a Creem Dream Magazine T-shirt and chopped it up and put safety pins and everything on it and punked it out. We probably made it specifically for this photo, but I think initially we just had old clothes. Our clothes were tattered and used up. It was a time when economics ruled what I was wearing. I just had to make do. So sometimes being in that situation, things happen that are really magical if you just sort of go for it. I think that really was the beginning of deconstruction. You couldn't buy anything like that then."

"I love that outfit. It was very comfortable and cute looking. I liked stripes. This was before Stephen Sprouse really got hold of me. I was very into sort of '30s and '40s vintage. The skirt was a vintage dress where the top completely rotted so I just salvaged the skirt. I still try to make at least one thing for every tour."

"This was the first dress that Steve put me in. It was another dress that was a really important part of my look: that little ballet scoop-neck, sort of a trapeze style, matte black silk jersey that had a great swing to it, really clingy and just a gorgeous cut. It was always remarked upon that the back of my hair was brown or natural and the front, sides and top were bleached. It was easier for me to do it that way since I was traveling so much and didn't have the opportunity to go to the salon and have it done. So I was busy destroying my hair by myself."

"This is definitely pre-Stephen Sprouse; he probably would have objected to it. These were textured, over-the-knee, open-weave black socks with little Frederick's of Hollywood Springalators—I think that's why they call them. That's a cut-off jeans skirt I cut myself. It was a different time. The city was totally bankrupt; it was a whole different era monetarily. People talk about a recession now, but there was no cession then."

"The Vulture shirt was given to me by one of Chris Stein's oldest friends, Joey Freeman, and it became one of my favorites. The skull and bones,we did an iron-on and put them on there. Those were my favorite black toreador straight-leg pants. I think they were cotton with a high waistband, really hot, good-looking pants. The little beret was dedicated to two of my favorite images: Patty Hearst when she was Tania and Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde."

"Those are the boots — I had one pair of boots and that was it. Steve [Sprouse] gave them to me; I think he got them from Halston. I would say the heel was probably 3 inches, so it was a pretty high heel but a walkable one. I wore them day in and day out. I used to wear wedding dresses a lot and just rip them off during 'Rip Her To Shreds,' and I'd have a little black dress underneath. Wedding dresses were one of my favorite things to rip. I'd get them at junk stores."

"It's a knit outfit that I got in Tokyo, and I thought it was the sweetest thing. It was all one piece with a drawstring at the waist, so the top would blouse over it. It was just the greatest little outfit. I added the tie —a black skinny tie, of course."
