At Jason Wu and Alexander Wang, artist Diane Kendal used a brown pencil very close to the lashes and then removed it with moisturizer for that "dewy, sultry, slightly smoky effect." Standout shades for eyes include Lancôme's Aquatique Waterproof Eyecolour Base in Sienne and NARS' Eye Paint in Iskandar

The perpetual discussion on how to get a natural "glow" continued backstage this season with some new solutions. At 3.1 Phillip Lim, Francelle Daly applied a highlighting blush to models' cheekbones sandwiched between a color blush to create an airy, sun-kissed reflection. While at Thakoon, Diane Kendal used NARS Triple X Lip Gloss on the girls' lids and eyebrows for a moisturized glow.

Next-to-Nothing Nails

The look is strong, healthy natural nails... but we all know that isn't as easy as it sounds. To get the look at Alexander Wang, two coats of Essie's Au Natural nude tone were topped off by the brand's Ridge Filling Base Coat for a hint of soft peach finish. At Derek Lam, Jin Soon Choi layered two shades of nude Nostalgia and the pinkish sheer Muse to better complement the range of skintones of the models.

Come-As-You-Are Hair

Backstage at the Versus show, Guido took models as they walked in the door and merely touched up their hair with a bit of Redken's Wind Blown 05 Dry Finishing Spray for volume and texture, and their new Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist (launching in November) for shine. "We're looking at each girl's individuality and just amplifying that." A relief for those of us who are hair-tool challenged.

What more appropriate style for the hot summer months than fresh-out-of-the-pool wet hair? Of course, achieving such a nonchalant look requires a bit of work: at Thakoon, Odile Gilbert used Kérastase Forme Fatale gel on hair from the top to mid-length for the wet look, then Keratine Thermique throughout the rest of the length before running a flatiron over it. The result was "beautiful girls coming out of the water, looking healthy."

At Fendi, Peter Phillips created a stir backstage when he glued strips of colored leather on models' eyelids for a punch of color. For a more wearable style, Lucia Pieroni created an oval of purple eyeshadow (from Cle de Peau's upcoming Fairy Dust palette) and skipped liner to give the models a blown-out, vibrant look.

Perhaps this is considered retro by now, but hairstyles that reigned popular in the '90s popped up even on the chicest runways in Paris. At Stella McCartney, models wore crimped ponytails, while at Marc by Marc Jacobs, punkish raver hair was created with a mohawk of twisted knots.
