Rodarte design duo Laura and Kate Mulleavy are famous for mixing high couture and modern femininity in their conceptual fashion collections. The talented sisters, keeping with their avant-garde style and California influences, have crafted a whimsical collection of carpets for The Rug Company.

The four statement-making rugs—Ivy Trellis, Ember, Cobalt and Cobalt Motif—are entirely handmade using the age-old weaving techniques for which The Rug Company is known, and are expressions of the designers’ interests and inspirations. The Ivy Trellis design was inspired by fairytale fantasies and medieval romance. The landscape of America’s Death Valley was the influence behind the Ember rug, which features hand-knotted Tibetan wool in earthen colors to reflect the barren scenery of the iconic locale. The final piece, Cobalt, was inspired by blue and white porcelain and 1970s Northern California interiors (an homage to the girls’ childhood memories), and is available with an optional porcelain-inspired central motif.

The stylish rugs, which range in size from 5’x 3’ to 18’ x 12’ and are priced between $3,360 and $48,384, are available for purchase from The Rug Company showrooms and online[1].
