6 Major Reasons to See American Hustle

As if the film’s seven Golden Globe nominations[1] weren’t enough, here are six more reasons to see David O. Russell’s American Hustle over the holidays.

The Hair. You’ll inevitably find yourself mesmerized by the hair in American Hustle, the styling of which can only be described as “so awesomely bad, it’s good.” Standouts include Bradley Cooper’s Jheri-curled locks (which allegedly required 110 perm-rollers daily) and Christian Bale’s strategically-placed comb-over that covers a glued-on toupee.

The Raciest Amy Adams Ever. The name Amy Adams hasn’t exactly been synonymous with “sultry” given her previous roles, but that all changes in American Hustle, where she oozes sexuality in just about every scene. Her character Sydney Prosser’s plunging necklines and skintight mini-dresses become a recurring (and easy-on-the-eyes) theme throughout the film.

The Music. Here’s a bold statement about American Hustle: it has, unquestionably, the best soundtrack of the year. From Duke Ellington to Elton John, and the Bee Gees to Donna Summer, it’s an ear-pleasing amalgamation of ‘70s classic rock and jazz that seamlessly blends cinema and music. A Hot Girl-on-Girl Kiss. We won’t spoil it for you, but we’ll just say that the energy between two of the film’s female stars results in a very passionate—and very unexpected—lip-lock.

The Chemistry. Audiences often find it challenging to buy on-screen chemistry between actors they’ve become so familiar with, but that’s not at all the case here. There’s an incredibly believable and genuine quality about all of the relationships in the film. The best of them all? Toe-curling sexual tension between Amy Adams and Bradley Cooper. You’ll know the scene as soon as you see it.

Robert De Niro’s Spectacular Cameo. De Niro[3]’s short-but-sinister cameo during a particularly intense moment further confirms what we’ve all known for a very long time: he is an unparalleled master in the art of bad-assery.
