The weird mid-week holiday is gone and we are all ready to fully celebrate the Fourth of July this weekend. Even if you aren’t fully celebrating Independence Day, why not celebrate the weekend in general? This week we’ve found ourselves bopping along to yet another track from our beloved pop star Charli XCX and the second song release from the cutest brother duo, The Driver Era. We spent a long time combing through Drake’s double-disc album, Scorpion and found our favorite song that actually samples the queen herself, Mariah Carey. With a surprise song release by Justin Timberlake, we’re ready for the weekend to begin and the volume to be raised. Listen below to our top five new song releases from this week.
1. “No Angel” by Charli XCX
Charli XCX has been on a roll with releasing catchy songs this year, from “Focus” to “5 In The Morning.” With a party girl lifestyle that she publicly embraces, Charli admits in “No Angel” that she’s not quite ready to settle down just yet. But, maybe one day. With a bright and synth-heavy bassline, Charli is clearly still here to get her listeners dancing (probably with a glass of champagne in hand).
2. “Summer Days” by A R I Z O N A
This upbeat dance record just might be our new favorite song of the summer. From the three-piece outfit A R I Z O N A, “Summer Days” offers a pop sound that will be sure to get you off your feet. The band is gearing up to support Panic! At The Disco at Madison Square Garden on July 24th.
3. “Afterglow” by The Driver Era
The visually pleasing duo Ross and Rocky Lynch made their sonic debut as The Driver Era with the banger, “Preacher Man.” The pair have followed it up with another romantic track, “Afterglow.” Of the song’s inspiration, Rocky says there was a specific romantic experience in Cabo that was short-lived and left him re-living it in his head. “We’ve all had experiences of Afterglow,” he adds.
4. “SoulMate” by Justin Timberlake
What’s better than a surprise single release from our favorite ex-boy bander, Justin Timberlake? “SoulMate” follows the release of JT’s latest album Man of the Woods and is a welcomed departure from the album’s country vibes. With this new song, listeners will feel alive and ready for a summer spent on the dance floor.
5. “Emotionless” by Drake
Drake’s newest album Scorpion is a little overwhelming. With a whopping 25 songs, Drake threw a lot of emotions at listeners. The fourth track off the double-disc album hits home for us in a special way with the sample of a club mix of Mariah Carey’s 1991 song “Emotions.” Carey herself gave her stamp of approval via Twitter and she is one pop star we would not disagree with.
