Summer is winding down and I couldn’t be more excited to be able to wear all my cutest fall fashions. Scarves, leather jackets, boots, tights, and of course, a pair of headphones. But, before we officially bid summer 2019 adieu, we have a new crop of tunes to enjoy. Fiercely passionate singer-songwriter Sabrina Claudio has unveiled a new track that was co-written by Julia Michaels. Indie rocker Soccer Mommy, who we are still obsessing over her performance at Pitchfork Music Fest this summer, released her first new song of the year if you can believe that.
We have a new electric bop from Mike Posner, a bubbly track from our favorite romantic singer, Lauv, and a solid rock banger from the Welsh band Stereophonics. Check out all five songs on this week’s Sound Bite below.
1. “lucy” by Soccer Mommy
Soccer Mommy (Sophie Allison) is about to embark on tour supporting both Vampire Weekend and Wilco. The singer is a force on stage, with experience opening for the likes of Kacey Musgraves and Paramore but with her latest single (and first of 2019), Allison is showcasing a different side to her musicality. “‘lucy’ is a really fun song for me because it has a dark, evil vibe. It’s a song about struggling with inner demons and your own morality, but I masked it with this scenario of being seduced by the devil,” Allison says of her new song.
2. “Slow It down” by Mike Posner
Since first exploding through our speakers with “Cooler Than Me” in 2009, Mike Posner has been evolving as an artist and a human being. Posner has currently walked over 2,000 miles along the “Walk Across America” journey. Following a rattlesnake bite, Posner commemorated his journey from Colorado to Arizona with “Slow It Down.” The inspiring song is laced with clever lyrics, all relating back to the one phrase: “life ain’t meant to be a heavy thing.”
3. “Bust This Town” by Stereophonics
Welsh rockers Stereophonics released their second single, “Bust This Town,” that will be featured on their upcoming album Kind (October 25). The song is an undeniably emotional storyline, written by Kelly Jones. Jones says of the track, “‘Bust This Town’ is a song about escapism. Two lovers or friends or whoever you want to interpret them to be, finally find the courage to leave the small town they are stuck in and head on down the road breaking all the rules along the way.”
4. “Truth Is” by Sabrina Claudio
Stunningly sensual while overtly talented, Sabrina Claudio is a masterful songwriter as well as a performer. Claudio recently announced her upcoming album Truth Is will be released on October 4, and the album’s title track is out now. Co-written with Julia Michaels, the song is passionate and heartfelt, accompanied by a self-shot lyric video.
5. “Feelings” by Lauv
Singer-songwriter Lauv croons of heartbreak and romance like a pro, while effortlessly weaving an upbeat pop vibe throughout his emotional lyrics. His newest single, “Feelings,” is the latest to be featured on his upcoming debut album, ~how i’m feeling~. With a powerful narrative and a catchy sound, we will have “Feelings” on repeat this weekend.
