With New York Fashion Week in full force, there is an exciting buzz in the air. From fashion shows to star-studded parties, the next week will be nothing short of exhaustingly beautiful. Even if you are not partaking in the stylish festivities, we suggest embracing the energy and celebrating in your own right this weekend. This week’s Sound Bite features new music from pop singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor, featuring two of our favorite up-and-coming starlets, Lennon Stella and Sasha Sloan.
A new banger from the electro-pop duo Phantogram has us super amped for their upcoming album due out March 6, Christine and the Queens released a Euro-pop hit in which she serenades listeners in French during one verse, and of course, a collaborative track from Khalid and Disclosure will have your adrenaline pumping in no time.
See below for all five songs.
1. “Workin’ On It” by Meghan Trainor feat. Lennon Stella and Sasha Sloan
Singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor released her third album Treat Myself and throughout the 15-track collection of music, Trainor offers a range of sounds and, a slew of epic featured artists. From Pussycat Dolls to AJ Mitchell, Trainor nabbed some stellar ladies to join her on the album. “Workin’ On It” features Lennon Stella and Sasha Sloan and delivers a hypnotic beat with empowered lyrics about actually working on herself. Trainor will join Maroon 5 on tour in May.
2. “Throwback” by Jessica Zeltzer
Newcomer Jessica Zeltzer experienced a difficult break-up and from the emotional pain she endured, the singer created a retro-infused song. “Throwback” is glittery and light, with moments of nostalgia woven throughout. Listeners are reminded that part of going through a break-up is remembering the good moments of the relationship. Seltzer reminisces on those shiny moments throughout “Throwback” and we’re here for those vibes.
3. “Know Your Worth” by Khalid and Disclosure
As the second collaboration between Khalid and Disclosure following their Grammy-nominated “Talk,” this new song is an uplifting bop. The soft, almost tropical-sounding, beat pulsated behind Khalid’s strong vocals as he sings, “You don’t know your worth. All the things I know that you deserve. Say it’s not real if it doesn’t hurt. Find someone you know will put you first. Find someone who loves you at your worst.” The song’s message to never settle for something less than what you deserve is sweet and inspiring, while the production makes us want to groove.
4. “People, I’ve Been Sad” by Christine and the Queens
This French superstar exploded into 2020 after a remarkable 2019 including an acclaimed sophomore album, and an epic collaboration with Charli XCX. Christine and the Queens’ newest single, “People, I’ve Been Sad,” is a stunning presentation of vocal ability and creative direction. The accompanying video features Christine and the Queens in a purple room, donning a powerful fitted suit. The singer’s poetic lyrics are sung in French during one of the verses, and the goosebumps are real.
5. “Pedestal” by Phantogram
This new song from Phantogram starts with crisp and ethereal vocals that are followed by an energized beat. “Pedestal” is the first single off the duo’s upcoming fourth album, Ceremony, set for release on March 6. The experimental pop duo have always offered cathartic music laced with emotional narratives. On Ceremony, the pair are eager to return to the airwaves with their optimistic-but-realistic words.
