On Location with Lyndie Greenwood

While the mythical Headless Horseman is typically depicted as coming from a small town in Westchester, the FOX series Sleepy Hollow[1]—which is about to kick off its second season—films in a different, if not equally spooky place.

“We’re in Wilmington, North Carolina,” says actress Lyndie Greenwood, who stars in the show as Jenny Mills. “I live downtown in the historic area by the Cape Town River, and the area is really beautiful and kind of haunted.”

It’s what?

“Well, I think it’s the whole downtown area that’s kind of haunted,” Greenwood says with a laugh. “The house that I’m renting is haunted, but luckily now the activity has calmed down a bit. Every time I say that to someone they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s pretty normal around here.’”

Still, there’s more than just the supernatural happening around the Sleepy Hollow set.

“The barbecue down here is great,” Greenwood advises. “I heard a lot about southern hospitality, and it’s proven to be a real thing. I feel very welcomed.”

Indeed, it sounds like the locals have taken a shine to the cast—haunted or not.

“My stunt double met a man on the plane here and he said, ‘My family’s having a Labor Day barbecue, why don’t you come on out?’” she says. “They took us on their jet skis and we’ve been really dear friends ever since.”

And what do those people think of Greenwood’s things that go bump in the night?

“People say, ‘Are you sure it’s not a sign from Sleepy Hollow,’” she says. “And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m pretty sure, but thanks.’”
