Hundreds of exciting art exhibits open each year, but there aren’t many we’re as perenially excited about as the Museum of Modern Art’s annual New Photography show.

The 2012 edition, the 27th in the series, opened this week and showcases the work of five photographers: New York’s Michele Abeles and Anne Collier, the Shanghai collaborative Birdhead, Los Angeles-based Zoe Crosher, and the Zurich-based, Iranian photographer Shirana Shahbazi.

New Photography will run through Feb. 4, 2013, and if you can’t get to MoMA, the museum is running an audio slideshow and artist commentary online.
