Fox’s The Following[1], a series known for its bone-chilling crimes and unexpected plot twists, has been startling audiences since it first premiered in 2013. And the upcoming third season will be no different.
In the series, 90210 alum Jessica Stroup—who plays NYPD detective Max Hardy—stars opposite Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy and Shawn Ashmore. “I was looking forward to working with the cast,” she says about joining the show during season two. “[Kevin Bacon] is the most prepared man you’ll ever meet, but he’s also hilarious. He brings in joy and fun—it really welcomes everyone. We’re dealing with pretty heinous crimes and intense scenes[2], but it’s always fun.”
As Stroup and the cast gear up for the show’s season three premiere, we asked her to take a brief time out for our DuJourquestionnaire. Here’s what she had to say:
What has been your best day on set?
Any time we’re doing a scene when we’re in a helicopter, that’s pretty awesome because we’re all really giddy. I rarely get to film with the bad guys. They’re all great actors, but I don’t see them that often so anytime we’re all together it’s fun.
Any guilty pleasures at the moment?
Podcasts. I was really late to the podcast game, so I feel like I’ve got years of catching up to do. That’s where I get lost sometimes, just trying to learn about whatever I can. I kept hearing about Serial and I just didn’t realize how great it was until I finally had some time to just put it on after the hype had already calmed down.
If you could spend a day in somebody else’s shoes, whose would you pick?
Probably James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem. I think he’s the coolest ever.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Take care of number one.
Is there a song you just can’t stop listening to right now?
I’ve got a million. I still really love that Sylvan Esso album.
What’s your everyday uniform?
I’m really into overalls. I like having a lot of pockets, and I can wear anything I want underneath it. They’re my go-to for being comfortable.
How would you spend your last day on Earth?
Probably out in the sand in Venice Beach near my house with all my friends, a bunch of alcohol and good food and playing with my dog.
