In 2018, when Second Stage Theater opened its new Broadway home at the Helen Hayes, Tony award–winning actress Celia Keenan-Bolger reconnected with playwright Paula Vogel, who won the Pulitzer in 1998 for How I Learned to Drive. “She mentioned she was writing something for me,” Keenan-Bolger recalls. “I tried not to get too attached to that idea because I know how sometimes the universe has other plans. But when she emailed me this script, I couldn’t believe it was actually happening.” Mother Play[1], co-starring Jim Parsons[2] and Jessica Lange, starts performances in April at the Helen Hayes.
