The Art Institute of Chicago[1] is welcoming two globally acclaimed portraits for an exhibition entitled The Obama Portraits this summer. Kehinde Wiley’s painting of President Barack Obama and Amy Sherald’s portrait of First Lady Michelle Obama[2]. The pair are on loan from the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and will make their way to the Obama family’s hometown of Chicago this June, where they will remain on view until August 15. Both the city of Chicago and the Art Institute hold a fond place in the hearts of the Obamas, given that the former first lady recalls the museum as the location of the couple’s first date.
