Opening Ceremony Celebrates Rihanna’s Outfits

High-end, edgy boutique Opening Ceremony inducted a new bad girl into their famed racks on Monday night, and it seemed as if half of New York turned out to celebrate Rihanna’s over-the-top style – and shop the “Unapologetic” singer’s first clothing line.

The highly anticipated collaboration with UK retailer River Island – which Rihanna worked on with her costume designer Adam Selman and debuted at London Fashion Week – was inspired by the singer’s personal style, a blend of laid-back femininity and high-fashion rebel. Just a look around the RIHtrospective, which includes seven of Rihanna’s most iconic outfits and will be on display at Opening Ceremony through March, reveals how clearly the singer’s wardrobe influenced the collection of casual pieces like a midriff-baring denim jumpsuit, a varsity jacket and a leather cap featuring a pendant inspired by one of Rihanna’s tattoos, and more sophisticated looks like a black floor-length dress with a sexy slit. The latter look is a personal favorite of Rihanna’s stylist, Mel Ottenberg. “What’s great about this collection,” Ottenberg told DuJour, “is that they are simple and easy pieces, completely wearable, and they work for any kind of girl.” Even one who doesn’t have almost 30 million followers on Twitter.

Rihanna for River Island is available exclusively at Opening Ceremony U.S. and Japan, and online at www.riverisland.com.
