My Last Piece of Art: Marc Jacobs

The torrential rain in New York this Wednesday night didn’t keep art enthusiasts and event-goers from the annual Free Arts NYC Art Auction[1], this year honoring artist Scott Campbell. Hosted by Marc Jacobs and Robert Duffy at The Garage in midtown, the night featured a live auction with pieces from artists like Jean-Baptiste Bernadet, Robert Indiana[2], Yoko Ono and Christo[3] with the goal of raising money to support art education for underprivileged children. Campbell’s own wine label, SAVED Wines[4], donated two limited-edition  bottles in hand-carved and painted boxes for the live auction, ahead of launching another limited-edition series to benefit Free Arts NYC.

The star-studded crowd included Kelly Rutherford, Natasha Lyonne, and Gina Gershon—along with newly pregnant Lake Bell and freshly single Justin Theroux, who both sat front-row for the auction. But even surrounded by such thespian talent, paddle-holding guests at the event had art on the mind, especially one Marc Jacobs.

“The last piece of art I bought was ‘Man with a Pig’ by Urs Fischer,” the designer told DuJour. “It’s a sculpture of a man f-cking a pig. It’s bronze and gold-plated, and I got it at my favorite gallery, the Gagosian Gallery.”

As for what’s next on Jacobs’ art wish list, there’s no shortage of options to complement his salacious sculpture. “I would love a Christopher Wool that was for sale last year and I didn’t get, and I would love a Rudolph Stingle that was for sale last year and I also didn’t get,” he said. “But really there are so many artists and work that I love, so I’m sure I’ll find something to bid on this season. There’s never any shortage of great art.”
