Hell’s Kitchen’s just-opened Gotham West Market—inside new luxury apartment building Gotham West on 11th Avenue and West 45th Street—is the city’s latest culinary destination, following in the footsteps of the Plaza Food Hall and Eataly.
The 10,000 square-foot, supercharged food court houses restaurants from Ivan Orkin, the renowned ramen master from Japan, and Christian Pappanicholas of Gramercy’s The Cannibal. Devotees of always-buzzing West Village tapas bar Tertulia should check out chef Seamus Mullen’s next sit-down enterprise, El Colmado, which features “tightly focused Spanish tapas with familiar ingredients” plus delicious wine and sherry on tap.
As David Picket, CEO of the Gotham Organization explains, “the inspiration for the market came from three places: necessity, Brooklyn and my youngest son. We really felt like we needed some kind of food use to anchor the building and give our tenants a place to shop and eat.”
Chef Mullen clearly agrees: “It’s an amazing opportunity to be a pioneer and break new ground in an up-and-coming area. I think it’s going to be a great food destination for the underserved neighborhood.”
