Welcome (back) to Miami, Carlos. On Wednesday, the Brazilian designer[1] (pictured at right with one of his fans, Beyonce) showed his fall 2013 collection at Miami Fashion Week[2]. “I have been presenting my collections in New York for the past ten years,” Miele, who has a store in NY’s Meatpacking District[3], explained, “So I am thrilled to be showing in Miami and sharing my work with a whole new set of eyes.”
Abandoning the history of New York Fashion Week[4] wasn’t easy, but the 15th anniversary of the second largest fashion event in the United States proved tempting – especially after Miele received[5] the International Designer of the Year award. “All of us at Miami Fashion Week have been fans of Carlos Miele’s designs for years,” Beth Sobel, the founder of Miami Fashion Week told DuJour, “His exclusive runway show will be the perfect way to start off our 15th year, as the event is truly a celebration of fashion, art, cuisine, music and style from across the globe.”
Miele couldn’t agree more about Miami’s vibrancy. “It’s also an epicenter for Latin culture and a significant city for contemporary art and design, hosting Art Basel and inspiring numerous fashion designers,” he said, “It gives me pleasure to bring Brazil’s rich culture and my Brazilian roots to the runways of New York, and now Miami, and I hope this award brings attention and inspires talented emerging fashion designers.” So do we!
