Since 1983, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame[1] has been honoring the music legends that have changed the world. Renowned industry professionals, including Rolling Stone magazine publisher Jann Wenner and Atlantic Records founder Ahmbet Ertegun, created the organization to celebrate musicians and protect their legacy.
Now, the foundation – which has a museum in Cleveland, Ohio – has a legacy of it’s own to maintain. The first induction ceremony took place in 1986[2], at New York City’s Waldorf-Astoria in the Grand Ballroom – with James Brown, Ray Charles, Elvis Presley and more inducted that year – and has continued to add five to seven of the world’s most popular musicians to the highly regarded ranks every year.

This year, Rush[3], Heart[4], Public Enemy[5], Donna Summer[6], Albert King[7], Randy Newman[8], Quincy Jones[9] and Lou Adler[10] will be inducted into the hall of fame in grand style. John Mayer, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Usher[11] and more of today’s artists will present awards and perform alongside several of the inductees.
And if this year’s show is going to channel anything from 1986 – where Keith Richards ripped off his tuxedo jacket when inducting Chuck Berry[12] and proclaimed[13], “It’s very difficult for me to talk about Chuck Berry ’cause I’ve lifted every lick he ever played — this is the gentleman who started it all!” – we’re in for a treat.
