Mediterranean Dinners on the Pacific

Hotelier Ori Kafri likens the Malibu coast to Capri, Italy. “When you say Malibu to people, in a way they fall in love immediately with the location, with the idea of Malibu. Similar to when we say Capri. There’s magic just by naming them,” he says. It’s this magic that inspired him to transport his boutique hotels from Florence, Rome and Capri to California for a week of pop-up dinners.

Inside the Malibu home

Each night through March 19, Kafri and the J.K. Place staff from Italy will host dinners for long-time hotel regulars and travel industry professionals. Guest will enjoy Italian classics like pizza made on the spot, a tasting of Tuscan olive oils and Italian wines like Castello di Ama and Ca’ del Bosco in a beautiful backyard overlooking the ocean. As part of the hospitality industry, Kafri felt it was important to bring a human connection to his hotel—and hopefully J.K. Place Malibu won’t be the last pop-up experience of its kind. “I hope that it will work and then we can make it in other places for maybe longer—maybe we can start from here and next summer to do it maybe in the Hamptons[1] for three months instead of for one week,” he says.

There’s currently a waiting list[2] to attend one of these exclusive dinners.
