At Capital Laser & Skin Care in Chevy Chase, Maryland, founder and dermatologist Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi, MD offers a variety of treatments, including nonsurgical body contouring and fat-removal services like Kybella and CoolSculping. The most common skin concern she hears? Aging and sun-damaged skin[1]. Her treatment philosophy aims for a look that is as youthful and vibrant as possible. She says, “I love practicing in the D.C. area because patients care about skin health and their appearance, but usually do not push to look younger at the expense of looking natural.”
Here, DuJour chatted with Dr. Tanzi about her new venture.
Why did this location in Chevy Chase make sense?
The location in Chevy Chase, literally on the border of D.C., is the perfect location because it is easily accessible for my patients from D.C., Maryland and Virginia. It has ample parking, which is so convenient and appreciated by both patients and staff, and is in the middle of a great shopping area.
Why was now the right time to open?
There were a lot of ideas and conveniences that I thought my patients would appreciate so when the right space became available, I knew it was time to act.
What are some of the newest cutting-edge treatments you’ll be offering?
New offerings include Kybella for a double chin, all handpieces for CoolSculpting including the first CoolMini handpiece in the D.C. area to also treat a double chin and the Sciton Halo hybrid laser for rejuvenation with less pain and downtime than previouslasers. We also have a special combination for aging hands[2] that includes Radiesse to plump, a laser peel to reduce age spots and a special hand cream to use every night to enhance the effects. Finally, microneedling for wrinkles around the lips and for certain types of scars is a great new treatment with a short recovery time.
What are some special design details?
When designing the office with the architect and design team, I let them know that treatments with laser and injections are often stressful to patients, which is why I wanted the rest of the office to be warm, inviting and elegant.
What makes for a successful skin clinic?
For us as a boutique cosmetic dermatology office, it’s all about the patient-guest experience. Everything we do is for the benefit of the patient. We want to deliver treatments, outcomes and an experience that is second to none. I like to help people look youthful and vibrant, not distorted and obviously “done.”
