Streamline Your Summer Beauty Regimen

We’ve all been there. That moment when we look at our makeup bag and we can’t make heads or tails of what’s in it (i.e. how long has that lipstick been in there?). For some much-needed inspiration, we’ve enlisted the help of professional makeup artist Raychel Wade, the Global Colour Ambassador for La Prairie and founder of Cheek to Chic[1] in 2002, a company that guides consumers to the best products on the market and provides expert makeup application and education services. Wade gave DuJour a few major beauty tips for a midsummer makeup audit.

Transitioning seasons: Wade recommends switching to products that are lighter in texture to combat humidity, like a cream blush instead of powder. Try La Prairie Cellular Radiance Cream Blush, $70,[2].

Tackling your makeup bag: “Know what you have,” says Wade. “It’s important to clean out frequently to avoid makeup that is past its prime.” Powders last longer, but mascaras are usually only good for about three months. Only keep products that you actually use, for example two or three lipsticks in different shades. And don’t hold on to lip gloss for more than six months—the emollient used can be a magnet for bacteria.

The most common beauty concern: A question that Wade often encounters pertains to color, in particular what colors go best with certain complexions. She recommends a less-is-more approach and suggests brown and champagne shades that are universally flattering. The right application tools are also a key part of making your makeup look its best: For example, using specialized brushes to ensure even and precise application. We recommend Bobbi Brown Basic Brush Collection, $185,[3].

Her favorite products: “I’m a big fan of the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation[4] and Make Up For Ever Aqua shadows[5] which dry quickly and don’t need to be reapplied throughout the day.”
