Harry Josh, who’s tended to the tresses of every model from Gisele Bündchen to Karlie Kloss and actresses like Kate Hudson and Rose Byrne, recently launched his second Pro Tool, a 2-in-1 Ceramic Marcel Curling Iron. DuJour sat down to figure out how the stylist made his signature tools, quite literally, the hottest on the market.
What void had you noticed in the hairstyling market?
No one really enjoys spending a lot of time on their hair, and when you think about styling tools—whether it is a brush or a dryer—it’s not hairdressers who are making them. You don’t really have a hairdresser who is on the front line saying, ‘it would be amazing if you did XYZ.’ That’s where I stepped in and how Harry Josh Pro Tools came to fruition.
What’s the most essential tool?
The most important thing in any woman’s arsenal is a blow dryer. It’s the one tool that everybody has to use. So, two years ago, to tackle this void in the market, I created a fully-customized compact, mint-green, ion-emitting blow dryer to cut drying time in half.
What was the second tool you wanted to perfect?
Next up, I wanted to tackle the curling iron, so I created a two-in-one curling wand with a Marcel attachment. The customer is getting two professional products that are easily transformable from one to another to achieve that messy, beachy Gisele look. Not only is it very hot heat (350 degrees) but it has an ion emitter and ceramic cord, so you are going to get consistent wave from root to tip because of the heat transference. I’m solving all of the little things that, as a hairdresser, I’ve had problems with for 20 years.
What makes it the best curling iron on the market?
It’s so great because of the fast digital heating technology, the ion emitter to help defrizz, automatic shut-off and the long ceramic cord. It’s efficient, fast and gives great results in half the time it would normally take to wave or curl your hair.
