Jo Malone, beauty revolutionary and founder of new luxury fragrance brand, Jo Loves, takes us through a busy workday in London as she crafts scents, makes candles and signs copies of her debut memoir, JO MALONE: My Story.
6:30am My day starts with a dog walk where I clear my head and think of all the things I need to do that day.
7:30am For breakfast, I blend my own fresh juices which I have with a really strong espresso followed by a shot of my own homemade cashew milk and aloe vera juice.
8:30am I’m now ready to plan my day and make a list of everything that needs to be done. I use a thick pen to highlight urgent tasks and anything that needs to be carried over to the next day can be written in thin pen.
10:30am After making a few telephone calls to my team, I sit alone and spend a couple of hours working my nose and testing new fragrances. I’ve been creating in this way for years and can’t imagine doing it any other way.
1:00pm I pop to Ottolenghi, one of my favourite food stores to pick up some sweet treats for Pink Friday. This is a celebration of good news at the end of the week that my team and I share over a glass of rosé wine.
3:00pm I’ve just written my autobiography and love signing books for customers who come into store. I’m so proud of the scented page.
3:30pm Here I am in the Candle Studio, making shot candles which will be Christmas gifts for press.
4:00pm I dash back to the office for my favourite meeting – NPD (new product development). It’s during this session that I come up with new ideas and approve new products – which I always sign off on with a red dot.
6:00pm On the way home, I pick up some flowers. I can’t bare having a home without them. I’ve been coming to the same flower shop every week for twenty years.
8:00pm One of my great loves is film and I’m proud to be part of the BFI (British Film Institute). As part of my involvement, I’m lucky to be invited to their screening events. My husband Gary and I love to head off to watch a good movie with a glass of chilled white wine.
10:30pm At the end of every day one of the most luxurious things in the world is to climb into crisp linen sheets lightly scented with cologne. It’s the perfect end to my day.
