A Suit for All Seasons: Master the Three-Piece

The ultimate sartorial staple in menswear is the perennial three-piece suit. Two top stylists answer our questions on the most modern version

Let’s face it: Selecting the perfect suit can make Mt. Everest seem like a quick go on the StairMaster. Single-breasted or double? Peak or notch lapel? You must select a fabric then factor in what seems like one million measurements, and we won’t even mention the endless talk of of what’s en vogue. But fear not, because we’ve asked two of our favorite menswear experts—stylists Karen Kaiser and Allan Kennedy—to help make sense of the three-piece suit trend.

Karen Kaiser

The American-born stylist counts Louis Vuitton, Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein among the clients she’s consulted. Her work has appeared in both American and Russian editions of Interview magazine, Vogue, as well as DuJour for our recent Robert De Niro cover story.

Allan Kennedy

The Scottish-born stylist has worked with everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Michael Phelps to David Beckham. Aside from consulting clients such as Perry Ellis and Joseph Abboud, his work has appeared in Details, French, Italian and Mexican editions of GQ, i-D,  and DuJour for our Nicolaj Coster-Waldau shoot.
