Mention the name “Deepak Chopra,” and many words come to mind: physician, spirituality, wellness, guru, Eastern medicine, life coach, author, healer, philanthropist. But one word that doesn’t is fashion—until now. This multifaceted man has teamed up with designer Rachel Roy on a special capsule collection, available on her site and at AHAlife, of Eastern-inspired T-shirts and jewelry featuring inspirational symbols and mantras. One example is a sword pendant. It’s Chopra’s favorite piece “because it represents strength. I also love how this design and many others have the chalice, the feminine symbol, built into them so it’s a perfect balance.”
The pieces range in price from $39 for a T-shirt to $395 for a necklace, with all proceeds going to Chopra’s Urban Yogi Initiative, which aims to teach inner city kids a type of yoga that melds traditional poses with hip-hop moves.
On Monday, Nov. 26, Chopra and Roy celebrated their collaboration with a lunch at New York City’s Lambs Club that brought out editors, writers and the social elite. Many of the guests—like model Hilary Rhoda, Mary Alice Stephenson and Zani Gugelmann—were fans of Chopra’s teachings, and you can count Roy among his devotees. She explained, “Over the years, I would turn to him more and more through his books.”
Of their work together, Chopra said he felt “great energy” from Roy. “I hope what people see in this collaboration is that when you bring two unusual people together with a common vision you can have immense creativity and imagination.”
