Home to floral paradise (namely in the springtime when the annual Petal to Plate culinary-centric flower festival takes place), Carlsbad is arguably one of California’s most scenic waterfront locales in its perennial state of bloom. With stunning sights around every corner and award-winning bars and restaurants on practically every block, this charming botanic enclave is the perfect SoCal weekend jaunt whether during the height of flower season or otherwise. See below for a snapshot into our ultimate three-day weekend.
Friday Afternoon: Touch down at San Diego airport and take your preferred means of car transport out to Carlsbad where you’ll check-in to the sunny and sprawling Omni La Costa. Golf aficionados and spa-goers alike will be right at home here (and the picture-perfect rooms don’t hurt either). Spend the afternoon settling in and exploring the property. If your visit happens to coincide with The Flower Fields’ visitor season (springtime), this afternoon would be the perfect time to pay them a visit.
Friday Evening: Take a car into town before your dinner reservation at Campfire. Trust us, you’ll want to take a stroll around the city center while all the shops are still open. When it comes time, head over to the restaurant and prepare for the wood-fired dining experience you won’t soon forget — the smoked and grilled ribeye for two is an absolute must.
Saturday Morning/Afternoon: Wake up bright and early for a world-class spa treatment at La Costa Spa, located just a stone’s throw from your hotel room. Opt for a custom massage or other treatment of your choice before heading into the garden to soak in the scenery (hello, Roman waterfall showers), relax for a spell, walk along the reflexology pathway, and break for a leisurely lunch.
After lunch, spend the rest of the afternoon lounging in the spa’s pools.
Saturday Evening: Following your relaxing spa session, head back to your room to rest and freshen up for dinner. Cocktails and chops aplenty await you at The Argyle at the Park Hyatt Aviara. Don’t miss out on the prime filet tartare and Japanese Wagyu.
Sunday Morning: Bid farewell to Carlsbad, bouquet in hand.
