Room Request! Shutters on the Beach

There’s an understated luxury that emanates from Shutters on the Beach[1], one of only two beachfront hotels in all of Santa Monica. The property feels like a quaint guest cottage—the kind of place you’d go to recharge and escape LA’s standard hustle and bustle. That’s largely thanks to interior designer Michael S. Smith (the same guy who decorates the White House[2]) who designed each of the hotel’s 186 guest rooms and 12 suites. Below, Shutters’ General Manager Gregory Day tells us about the most sought-after room on property.

The most in demand rooms in the hotel:
“We only have 12 premiere ocean-view king rooms, and eight are physically on the sand. It’s hard to beat! Guests have nothing between them and the sand, sea and sun.”

Your personal favorite:
“Now that I’ve built up the eight suites on the sand, I’m going to reverse trend and say the four suites on the top floor (seventh) of the Ocean House building that overlooks the pool and beach.”

Because…
“They’re very quiet and private. They offer easy access to the pool, which for me is key. And of course, the views are great!”

Celebrity guests:
“As we say at Shutters, confidentiality is included in our room rates.”

Rate per night:
Rates start at $995

Fun fact:
The hotel’s art collection includes pieces by David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein and Jasper Johns.
