Room Request! Ayana Resort and Spa Bali

Since its opening in 1996, Ayana Resort and Spa[1] has hosted a wide range of guests, from Saudi royalty to Tyra Banks and her top models. The ultra-private hotel overlooking the Indian Ocean is home to an award-winning spa—and the world’s largest Aquatonic seawater pool. With 290 rooms and 78 private villas each decked out in traditional Balinese design, we wondered: Which is most coveted? Hotel manager Clive Edwards offers up the inside scoop.

Most requested room in the hotel:
“The Ocean Front Cliff Villa.”

What makes it special:
“It’s especially popular with honeymooners and couples because of the privacy, seclusion and romantic elements in the traditional Balinese design. Panoramic, uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean and sunset, views from the bedroom and the bathtub out to the ocean, generous space in gardens, pool and living areas—which combined amounts to 500 square meters of living space—makes it feel like your home away from home. Having a Floating Brunch in your plunge pool is a plus, too!”

Your personal favorite:
“The Club Suite.”

Because…
“It has beautiful decor with batik throws and mendang panelling, giving you a true sense of being in Bali. You have beautiful ocean views from your balcony, a separate living area to the bedroom and two bathrooms. It’s very spacious and cozy, just like being in a Villa, without the garden and private pool. The Club-level guests also enjoy extra benefits including complimentary food and beverages from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily in the Club Lounge.”

Celebrity guests:
“We can’t reveal the names of all celebrities, but we can reveal that Tyra Banks and the cast of America’s Next Top Model season 20 stayed in our Villas during filming earlier this year. Those episodes are now airing, and guests can see the Villas on-air. We have a diverse market mix, so we have also been honored to host entertainers such as Michael Bolton, Third Eye Blind, Japanese actress Amami Yuki-san and Korean celebrities. Also we’ve had heads of state including the Prime Minister for India, President of Indonesia and Saudi Royalty.”

The rate:
“Rates start at $750 US per night and go up from there.”

Fun fact:
“We are the largest resort in Bali on 77 hectares of cliff-top land, and on November 1, we will open our sister hotel Rimba Jimbaran Bali[2] within the same estate. The opening of Rimba allows our guests to enjoy the best of both worlds from Ayana’s ocean-front setting to Rimba’s forest setting akin to a national park. Also: Ayana means ‘a place of refuge’ in sanskrit. “
