Room Request! Park South Hotel

Incredible restaurants draw crowds to this popular NYC hotel

For travelers who want to feel like they are part of the neighborhood they’re staying in, the Park South Hotel is a perfect fit. The Art Deco space just underwent a $20 million top-to-bottom renovation, launching four unique restaurant concepts. The goal of the renovation was to reflect an authentic New York City feeling, complementing the luxury apartments and chic restaurants of the area.

A guest could eat several meals at the hotel and not miss out on the city’s dining experience: pastries and Counter Culture coffee at Covina Café, seasonal American-Mediterranean cuisine like hummus, roast chicken and pizza at Covina and, finally, an elaborate 24-course Omakase at O Ya. But by far one of the best highlights of the 131-room boutique property is the Rooftop at Park South, an oasis sitting on top of the hotel that serves up a variety of vacation-worthy cocktails like Mai Tais and Martinis. And unlike many other New York City rooftop bars, the crowd is not overwhelming or rowdy.

We talked to Park South Hotel General Manager José Lema about his favorite room and the room that’s booked most often.

The most requested room:

The Executive King rooms ending in 06 and 07 from the 5th floor and up are the most requested rooms.

An Executive King room

What makes it so special:

Guests are enchanted by the partial views of the Chrysler Building and have commented on how they help add to their NYC experience. They also enjoy the size of the room and bathroom, especially the rain shower.

The rate:

The rates for an Executive King fluctuate throughout the year, but typically range from $209 a night to $449 a night depending on the season.

Your personal favorite:

Room 807.

Because…

It is an Executive King on our highest floor. It receives a lot of sunlight and has a view of the Chrysler Building.

Celebrity guests:

We’ve had a couple of star athletes (current and former) stay with us. At Park South, they get to experience some of the same comforts they would at some of the more high profile properties in the city but without the intrusive attention from other guests. One of our past celebrity guests told us that our team certainly “rolled out the red carpet” for him throughout his stay but they made him feel at home by respecting his privacy.

Fun fact:

We consider music a crucial detail in creating the overall “vibe” and tone of the lobby depending on time of day, occasion (holidays for instance) or sometimes the guests we notice in our property. We have a number of different curated playlists that are updated on a regular basis. We have put so much emphasis on this detail that our staff has become just as cognizant and they will select a certain playlist in order to better fit the guests they notice in the lobby.
