Room Request! The Oberoi Udaivilas Udaipur Hotel

Oberoi hotels have a long-standing reputation of being among the most exclusive in the world. The design is breathtaking; the food is unparalleled; and the schooling for hotel staff is extensive, resulting in only the highest level of service. The Oberoi Udaivilas[1]—a property located in Udaipur, India—is all of that and then some.

Aside from the stunningly appointed rooms—many with a semi-private pool that’s just outside one’s courtyard—the hotel staff is what makes the experience of Udaivilas so special. Feeling chilly during a splendid lakeside dinner? Before you can reach for a scarf, an attentive staff member is tableside to offer a cozy pashmina to ward off the night’s chill. Drinks never go empty. Pillows are constantly fluffed. If it’s known that a guest appreciates spicy foods or a particular spirit, the cuisine and cocktails are served accordingly.

And while the property is far (very far) from a backpacker’s India, the spirituality is not lost. Yoga and daily meditation classes are offered on the tranquil pavilion, at both dusk and dawn. The spa boasts treatments—or rather indigenous rituals—such as the “Chakra Balancing,” the “Magic of Mewar” and “Spirit of Ayurveda” in the poshest of treatment rooms.

Below, DuJour speaks with Vincent Guironnet, the hotel’s general manager, about the most coveted room on the property.
