Room Request! Le Quartier Français

There’s something profoundly intimate about Le Quartier Français[1], a quaint Relais & Châteaux property in South Africa’s Cape Winelands region. Perhaps that’s because the 21-room retreat—with an on-property art gallery, screening room and sculpture garden—feels more like a private estate than a hotel. Le Quartier Français strikes the perfect balance between charming and luxurious, which is best illustrated by the hotel’s resident butler. He treats guests like family, attentively anticipating their every need. Each room is thoughtfully decorated and spacious, but one special suite continues to be the most in-demand. Below, the hotel’s deputy general manager, Roger Boonzaaier, takes us inside.

What makes it so special?

Guests have raved about this spacious suite, with its brilliant use of colors, walk-in dressing room, fireplace and underfloor heating. It’s the sense of privacy and the personality that the room has—in addition to being looked after by Themba, our resident butler—that appeals to all who have stayed there.

The rate:

Rooms are $400-$800 per night.

Your personal favorite:

Room 7, one of our Grande Rooms.

Because…

Walking in you feel as if a magical world has opened up. As you look out from the oversized windows, there is a sense of calm with the mountains and garden as a backdrop. There is also a feeling of fun, enjoyment and playfulness when you relax in this room. Special touches, such as unique pieces of art, add to its charm. It is a sense of individuality that I have enjoyed over many years while staying here.

Fun fact:

An on-property garden includes a selection of indigenous herbs that are used in dishes prepared by Chef Margot Janse at the hotel’s award winning restaurant, The Tasting Room[2].
