On Christmas Day, 2015, DuJour contributor—and serial traveler to IndiaMark Hartman sat on the beach in the southern Indian state of Kerala, one of his favorite regions. “The beach was full of women wearing brightly colored saris, people playing in the water fully clothed, while others stared meditatively at the sun setting over the ocean,” he says. “The energy was electric.”

The fading light absorbing into the beachgoers’ brightly colored clothing inspired this mini “color study.” Click through the attached gallery to see more photos from Hartman’s trip.
