The DuJour 5×5: Golden Globes Edition

DuJour editors weigh in on last night’s show

Each week for The DuJour 5×5, we ask five editors five questions on a different topic. For this week’s installment, we’re dishing on the Golden Globes—who was snubbed? Who was best dressed? And what was the highlight of the evening? Read on to hear our thoughts.

1. How did you watch the Globes? At the ceremony itself! Such a thrill; a really fun night.

2. The biggest snub of the night: Jennifer Lawrence can do no wrong, but my heart was set on our cover girl Lupita Nyong’o winning her award.

3. Best dressed male and female: LUPITA—she killed it! Everyone was talking about her and for good reason. The Ralph Lauren dress was stunning and singular, just like Lupita herself. I wasn’t that excited by Reese’s choice—it just seemed to casual for the night, not exciting enough.

4. Favorite moment of the evening: “Go to hell and don’t come back,” Jacqueline Bisset.

5. What nominated movie or series will you now go out and see that you haven’t already? Didn’t have a chance to see Wolf of Wall Street before the awards but it’s next on my list.

1. How did you watch the Globes? I watched some late-night highlights on DVR after the Jay-Z concert.

2. The biggest snub of the night:  Andy Samberg and the Brooklyn Nine-Nine wins really came out of left field for me. It was a serious underdog moment. I also wish Inside Llewyn Davis got a little more love at the Globes. Oscar Isaac was brilliant (and handsome). Of course, the biggest snub of the night in my eyes was Lupita Nyong’o losing in the Best Supporting Actress category. No doubt she’ll take home the Oscar though!

3. Best dressed male and female: I really loved Lupita’s Ralph Lauren moment in red, as well as Cate Blanchett in black lace Armani Prive. Both women looked classic and beautiful, soft and elegant but still made very strong statements. As for the guys? Leo just kills it every time.

4. Favorite moment of the evening: Emma Thompson on stage with a martini in one hand and her Louboutin’s in the other, rallying against wearing heels all night. Preach, girl.

5. What nominated movie or series will you now go out and see that you haven’t already? I’m so behind and basically need to see it all: Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle, Her and Orange is the New Black on Netflix.

1. How did you watch the Globes? Hosted a wine and cheese watch party at my apartment.

2. The biggest snub of the night: When Bono went up to accept his award, he blew off P. Diddy and moved on to greet the other presenters.

3. Best dressed male and female: I thought that Olivia Wilde rocked her baby bump in that sequin Gucci gown—six months pregnant never looked better. And Matthew McConaughey looked incredible (as always) in that velvet blazer.  It was all about the emerald green!

4. Favorite moment of the evening:  Jennifer Lawrence’s acceptance speech.  She’s so relatable, and was so genuinely shocked when she won the award for Best Supporting Actress.

5. What nominated movie or series will you now go out and see that you haven’t already? Behind the Candelabra.

1. How did you watch the Globes?  In my loungewear with a glass of wine.

2. The biggest snub of the night: Masters of Sex not winning. While I love Breaking Bad and watched it religiously, Masters is an amazing series that I know will have legs.

3. Best dressed male and female: Our cover model Lupita N’yongo. She looked absolutely flawless. And Bradley Cooper. He looked so put together and I loved him in American Hustle.

4. Favorite moment of the evening:  “Even the most deft pen is a clumsy tool.” Alex Ebert, Best Original Score for All is Lost.

5. What nominated movie or series will you now go out and see that you haven’t already?  Her and Nebraska. I really tried to see them but didn’t make it in time.

1. How did you watch the Globes?   I took in the awards from my couch, where a gourmet assortment of Ruffles and ice-cream sandwiches were made available.

2. The biggest snub of the night: I was definitely sad to see our cover star Lupita Nyong’o lose out for Best Supporting Actress, but I was most surprised to see Nebraska completely snubbed.

3. Best dressed male and female: Pasty slip or not, I thought Robin Wright looked, per usual, flawless. And is there anyone who wears a tux better than Idris Elba? Even in a room full of stars, the camera couldn’t stay off him last night. Thank goodness for that.

4. Favorite moment of the evening: The best lines were all coming from Twitter, which I was refreshing constantly for biting commentary on the whole evening.

5. What nominated movie or series will you now go out and see that you haven’t already?  Who isn’t curious to see what Brooklyn Nine Nine is all about after the attention it got?
