Fantasia at The W

W Union Square and the ICFF present “Fantastico”

Fantastico, a window installation by the Spanish design team Wanda Barcelona that was unveiled Monday evening at the W New York hotel in Union Square, truly lives up to its name. The Barcelona-based trio, which is best known for creating visually-inspired settings for clients like Lladro and Carolina Herrera, chose to fashion an oversized 10-foot-wide fan to symbolize their native country’s heritage and cultural influence.

“We wanted to represent Spanish design in a new way,” explains Iris, the project’s artist. “The fan is elegant and fun, but it also reflects hard work.” The object, which was made from white cardboard and laser-cut paper, took more than two months to complete (it’s the first commissioned piece created exclusively for the Union Square W). The temporary installation can be seen in the hotel’s newly renovated Living Room.
