The Adventurous Life of Giacomo Casanova

Amazon Studios launches a new original series about the famed 18th century Italian playboy

Giacomo Casanova—the legendary Venetian lover, spy and author—has a name that will live in infamy. The historic figure, perhaps most notorious for his prolific sexual exploits with women, led an eventful life filled with tales of adventure, imprisonment and exile. Now, those infatuated with the 18th century womanizer can get a glimpse inside a little-known period of his life thanks to Amazon Studios’ new original series, Casanova.

The show, which chronicles the highs and lows of Casanova’s journey, was shot on location in Venice, Paris and Budapest and is helmed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Diego Luna stars as the title character alongside Ben Daniels, Miranda Richardson and Bojana Novakovic in other key roles. Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning producer Ben Silverman—the brains behind hits Jane the Virgin, The Office, Ugly Betty, Tudors and more—executive produces the period piece.

“Jean Pierre Jeunet is an incredible artist and a perfect director to help visualize our Casanova story, which takes our protagonist from a prison in Venice to the heights of Parisian society,” says Silverman. “Diego Luna leads the all-star cast in a super sexy take on a classic.”

On July 30, an exclusive group of guests received a first look at Casanova during a chic picnic-style screening in Southampton. The evening—hosted by Ben Silverman, Christopher Burch and Jason Binn—included delicious handcrafted cocktails and light bites to kick off the series’ worldwide premiere on Amazon Instant Video on August 7.
